Learning on Lockdown: A Guide to Free Online Tutorials You Can Enjoy at Home

Staying inside your home or condo for longer periods can be distressing, but instead of focusing on your routines during the enhanced community quarantine, you can also use this time to learn about new things. Flex those long-dormant creative neurons and stimulate your mind with these free tutorials and fun lessons:

  1. Learn photography online

Photography enthusiasts can take their skills up a notch with the free online classes launched last week by Fujifilm Philippines through the Fujifilm Academy Online. The first lessons released include simple one-light setups by Jerico Montemayor and editing JPEGs by Magic Liwanag.

The next lessons will be on April 1 for Astrophotography (John Kimwell Laluma) and Music Video Production (Silver Belen), April 6 for Food Photography and Photography at Home (Food MNL Studios) and Street Photography (Evan Grabador), and April 13 on Professional Quality Livestreaming by Ted Claudio. Learn video editing skills through  Apple’s new extended trial for Final Cut Pro X from its original 30 days to 90 days. You can also spice up your home cooking by learning from the masters, as different chefs have opened up online cooking classes through their social media platforms. One of them is Michelin-star chef Massimo Bottura through the show Kitchen Quarantine on Instagram TV.

Listen to different viewpoints and expand your knowledge with over 30 million episodes of 800,000 podcasts available on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. The choices can be overwhelming, but no matter what subject you’re into, chances are there is a podcast about it, with a lot of new ones coming out daily, too. You might want to listen to Startup, Comments By Celebs, Finding Fred, The Habitat, or Girl Gang: The Podcast.

Avoid being sedentary at all times by checking out some exercises you can do at home. There’s  Fitness Boxing or Ring Fit on your Nintendo Switch. Or if you prefer free workouts and yoga sessions go to Zumba at Live Love Party or Yoga with Adriene on Youtube (her 30 Days of Yoga helps you ease into yoga stretches). These programs will help keep you fit and feeling positive at home.
