This month, allow Metro Society to give you the latest in the world of design, as well as have you catch a glimpse into some of the country’s prominent homes.
First off, be enthralled by the cover story on Vittorio Missoni. An heir to the fashion empire throne known for its wildy iconic prints (he is now the president of Missoni USA and Missoni France), Vittorio is always trying to take his brand to higher heights, branching out into a lush home line as well.
So when Century Properties proposed that Missoni Home could take care of the design of Acqua Livingstone here in Manila, Missoni was willing to establish the brand’s roots in Asia even further—with existing exclusive boutiques in Tokyo and Hong Kong.
The year 2012 marks Missoni’s first foray into real еstatе development—and Vittorio sees a lot of promise in an emerging country that has a lot of “green” projects. It is an interesting cover story that more than fits this month’s theme.
Apart from being considered an emerging country in terms of art and architecture, the Philippines is a cespool for up-and-coming designers of artistic furniture pieces and lighting. One group that comprises such talent is the HIVE. A Keneth Cobonpue brainchild, this design house is home to international artists of Pinoy heritage who are either based locally or in cities like Paris and New York. Meet Cobonpue’s talented bunch—Jinggoy Buensuceso, Olivia d’Aboville, Christy Manguerra, Lilianna Manahan, Mona Alcudia, and Luisa Robinson—and see how they blend artistry and function.
From newbies to pros in the biz, several of the county’s top dogs of achitecture and interior design to give us a peak into either their favorite rooms within their own homes or a favorite space they did for a client. From work spaces to living rooms, the likes of Jose Antonio Mendoza, Cynthis Almario, Ed Calma, Joey Yupangco, Manny Minana, Tessa Alindogan, and Tina Periquet are sure to wow you.
Still on visiting homes, the magazine was invited by three congressional spouses—Richard Gomez, Kaye Tinga, and Tootsy Angara—to see what their brand of entertaining brings.
Also this month is a heartwarming feature on Manila’s handsome dads with their adorable sons to celebrate Father’s Day: Rafa Alunan, Sonny Angara, David Jacob, Macky Mathay, Raoul Francisco, Roque Tordesillas, and Vince Hizon. These guys work hard, but play even harder when it comes to spending quality time with the true loves of their lives.
In keeping with the month’s theme, Metro Society’s CEO profile this month focuses on executive chairman Pedro Roxas and vice president Santiago Elizalde of Roxaco Land. And for the Charity story, it appeared to be a breeze for Aida del Rosario and her daughters Maitoni Cu-Unjieng and Tina Romualdez to put together a Gawad Kalinga village—all it took was a 70th birthday wish, and a lot of magnanimous friends. Best part about these ladies is that they aren’t only building a community, they’re teaching its inhabitants to sustain it.
As if all this isn’t enough, we have loads of other features in between, including exclusive men and women fashion spreads showcasing the latest collection from Tommy Hilfiger (who recently set up shop here in the Philippines), as well as a beautiful tribute from one friend to another—society maven Tats Manahan chats with us about her dear friend June Keithly, who recently lost her darling husband Angelo Castro to the big C…something she herself is battling at the moment.
So here’s to another great read this month from Metro Society!
