MANILA – “Boutique yet complete” – this was how Century Properties President and CEO Marco Antonio described the company’s first retail development.
Located at Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City, Century City Mall was formally launched on Monday after nearly a month of operation. The P1.4-billion project is mainly a community mall, targeting residents of the property firm’s high-rises as well as nearby subdivisions.
With a gross floor area of 50,000 square meters, Century City Mall is described by many as a smaller version of Power Plant in Rockwell, which is only a few minutes away. Like Power Plant, the mall comes with a supermarket, fashion brands, dining destinations, coffee shops, cinemas and an events area.
While it has been formally launched, all of the tenants have yet to set up shop. Century City Mall is still noticeably bare as some stores are still closed, but its current lineup is already worth a look.
ABS-CBNnews.com did a tour of the mall during its formal launch, and here are some things to look out for:
Supermarket, snack stops
Century City Mall has a total of five floors starting at the lower level, where Rustan’s Supermarket is located. While the mall opens at 10 a.m., the grocery starts welcoming customers as early as 9 a.m.
Just a few steps away from Rustan’s Supermarket are a number of establishments serving mainly snacks, desserts and fast food meals. Among them are Pepper Lunch, Bronuts, Azzurro, Isla Café, Twelve Cupcakes and Mochi Sweets.
Set to open soon are Burger King, Toast Box and a branch of the Korean fried chicken chain Kyochon, as well as the bread shop Lartizan and the casual sit-down restaurants California Pizza Kitchen and Banana Leaf.
There are also stores selling personal care items and hardware products. While there is ample space to walk around, the lower level (and the mall in general) needs more seating areas for customers, specifically the elderly and those who have disabilities.
At the ground level are more food and dining establishments, from IHOP and Early Bird Breakfast Club to Greek Yogurt, Royal Touch, TWG, Starbucks and Villa del Conte.
Similar to the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza in Shaw Boulevard, it features a mix of jewelry and watch brands such as TW Steel, Pandora, Philip Stein, Swarovski and Victorinox. Also found here are the fashion brands Desigual and IZOD, with Rubi, Cotton On and Call It Spring set to open soon.
The second floor is home to more familiar fashion brands such as Uniqlo, Nike, Planet Sports, Hush Puppies, Bench, Toys R Us, Res Toe Run and Mothercare. An interesting find here is Chibi Momo, which sells cute baby clothes, shoes and toys.
Cinemas, more dining spots
Century City Mall’s third floor is home to four 100% digital projection cinemas, with one of them equipped with 60 fully-automated leather seats, a 7.1 Dolby Atmos Surround Sound system and a space for cocktail parties.
Food and beverage options at the cinema include Taters, Chatime and the popular American coffee brand Toby’s Еstatе.
Also on the third floor are stores like Dimensione, Howards Storage World, Dyson, Office Warehouse and Fully Booked, as well as the restaurants Kimukatsu and Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen.
The al fresco area at the fourth floor has even more dining establishments, from the spacious CaliBurger to Qools Yogurt and Fruit and Planet Grapes, among others. The mall’s food court, dubbed Hole in the Wall, is set to open here as well.
Designed with a green wall, the al fresco area also features regular water and light shows through its three sets of fountains. The fifth floor, meanwhile, is dedicated to an events center that has a view of the Makati skyline.
While it is not ideal for serious shoppers with its limited options, Century City Mall is a one-stop shop for basic needs and a good place to dine and hang out with friends and family. The mall can use some seating areas and a few decorations, but all in all, it is worth a visit.
