Century Spire: Design enhances the living experience

TODAY’S condominium buildings have become more than just a dwelling place for the urban citizen. With space becoming a premium in the dense metropolis, several developers have opted to construct mixed-use towers which offer both residential and office space for companies. However, this type of development also has its fair share of issues to address as the building’s design should be aesthetically pleasing to both types of clients: the individuals looking for a new home and business owners who wish to set up office at a new location.

Real-еstatе developer Century Properties, the company behind the projects Azure, Acqua, Milano and Trump Tower is up to tackle the challenge of a mixed-use building with the latest addition to their portfolio, the Century Spire.

Century Spire is a residential-office tower developed by Century Properties Group under its subsidiary Century City Development Corporation. It is the first Century-branded building and the last of eight towers to rise at Century City, Makati, Philippines. The building is a joint project between Century Properties, architect, Daniel Libeskind, and interior design firm Armani/Casa.

Libeskind, who is behind some of the most iconic structures in the world, such as the Jewish Museum in Berlin and the London Metropolitan University Graduate Centre, is designing the 60-story Century Spire, which is his first project in the Philippines. He is the principal architect and founder of the prestigious Studio Daniel Libeskind.

Century Spire’s architecture goes beyond a traditional tower. Rather than taper into a fine point at its peak, the building blooms like a flower, its petals opening up to the world. This blossoming form is symbolic of Century Properties’ growth through the years and its development into a company known the world over for its dynamic, industry-shaping projects.

The building’s “crown” – three interlocking segments – is distinctly Libeskind in structure – its geometric shapes are a fusion of playful and sophisticated design. The design enhances the living experience of the top floor residents as it affords them dynamic living space and more exhilarating views of the city.

This untraditional design echoes the design philosophy of Libeskind, who said that “architecture is more than just construction. That’s why there is a difference between just building and the word architecture. They are two different things. You can build, but you might not come up with a piece of architecture, just a building. The word architecture has to do with culture.”

Armani Casa, the interior design arm of the Armani Group and whose creative director is Giorgio Armani himself, is designing the common and amenity areas of the building that include the grand lobby, library, pool, juice bar, and relaxation area. Golden beiges, warm greys, and muted greens are used in the common areas and amenities. The configuration and decoration of the walls emphasize the bold geometry of the space, which sits in complete harmony with the building’s exterior.

“It is an honor to work with such esteemed brands, which are respected and revered all over the world,” said Robbie Antonio, Century Properties managing director, and project head for Century Spire.

From the 60 floors of the building, 35 floors are devoted solely for residential use. The units being offered come in a variety of sizes, from a modest 30 sqm to a staggering 400 sqm. Furthermore, each resident will be able to avail of a number of services such as a concierge service, dry cleaning and laundry service, and housekeeping service. Security and comfort is also assured with round-the-clock electricity and maintenance as well as 24/7 security.

Century Spire’s showroom units, which are now open for viewing, features Armani Casa’s own collaborative bathroom line, Armani/Roca, and kitchen line, Armani/Dada. The showroom units will serve as unit design inspirations for the buyers of Century Spire apartment units. Each type of apartment has a different color identity, designed to enhance its characteristics – the simple and rigorous shapes develop around a palette that ranges from silver-grey and blue to tones of warm amber, jade green, and pale gold.

Century City is an 8-tower mixed-use, integrated development in Modern Makati. It comprises the premium residential towers Gramercy Residences, Knightsbridge Residences, Milano Residences (interior designed by Versace Home, for completion in 2015), Trump Tower (for completion in 2016), and now Century Spire (target completion in 2018).
