3 Things You Need To Do Before Decorating Your Condo

Your condo has finally been turned over to you and you can’t wait to transform it into a space that truly reflects your taste and personality. There are two ways to go about decorating your condo: You can either hire a professional interior designer or opt to do it yourself. No matter which option you choose, it’s definitely possible to come out with a beautifully designed home. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you embark on the exciting journey of decorating your new home.

  1. Brainstorm for ideas. Before you start shopping for furniture, take some time to think about what you want your space to look and feel like. Browse through design websites to learn more about the different interior design styles, such as Scandinavian, transitional, bohemian chic, and many more. Pinterest is a treasure trove of pegs and ideas you can refer to, especially when you’re designing specific aspects of your home. Read design books or watch home makeover shows on TV for inspiration. You can also visit furniture stores and showrooms to get a sense of what products are available in the local market.

  1. Create a dream board or scrapbook. In today’s digital world, it’s easy to save all your pegs in a folder in your computer. But when it comes to design, it helps to go old school. Print out your chosen pegs and paste them on a dream board or scrapbook. Tear out the pages you loved from design magazines or from a furniture store’s catalog and stick them on your board as well. Putting all the different pieces together will help you see which pegs go well together. When all these elements are laid out right in front of you, you’ll be able to further define the design for your home.
  1. Formulate a plan. Once you’ve chosen a particular style, it’s time to start planning. First, make a list of all the things you already have that you plan to bring into your new home. Can some of these items be repurposed to fit your design peg? Next, make a list of all the items you need to buy, along with a list of stores you need to visit. If you’re on a budget, consider checking secondhand stores or online selling apps like Carousell, where you can purchase pre-loved items. While browsing, you may be tempted to buy a certain item that catches your eye right on the spot. But before you do so, you need to consider how it will fit in with all the other furniture you already have.
