Reasons to #LoveChristmas

At the corner of Salamanca St. and Kalayaan Ave. in Makati City is a posh and compact but complete shopping mall that’s literally the new kid on the block.

But as they say, “the last but not the least.” There are many reasons to visit Century City Mall. The mall’s management recently hosted a press tour at the mall to introduce its Christmas offerings and we were impressed at what we saw. Modern interiors, specialty stores and unique food offerings await shoppers. Chibi Momo, which means mischievous peach in Japanese, is a kiddie emporium that offers the most exclusive stuff for babies and toddlers. The baby boutique has its only outlet at Century City Mall so if you are a discerning mom who wants exclusive stuff for her baby, then a special trip to Makati is worth it.

Another Century City Mall exclusive is Rubi, which offers shoes for the stylish but budget-conscious shopper.

Here are some of the reasons to love Christmas at Century City Mall:

Hole in the Wall

Think food court but 20 times better. Hole in the Wall is a first-of-its-kind food concept run by Charles and Suzy Paw. It offers choices for people who can’t make up their minds, who want different flavors when they dine out.

For the press tour, we had an early dinner at Hole in the Wall, which is at the mall’s fourth level. The interiors are very modern and the food choices very impressive. You can have a filling Classic Corned Beef Reuben at Mister Delicious, where servings are big enough to share. Kwong’s has a delicious soft-shell Po’boy sandwiched between cuapao. Scout’s Honor offers a make-your-own cookie treat while Green Cheese has the lightest Japanese cheesecake. Kids will love the fried chicken and corn on the cob at Bad Bird. A must-try is the Waffle Plate, two pieces of fried chicken with two pieces of sweet potato waffle, miso butter and maple syrup.

Dining options

Food outlets at Century City Mall include Banana Leaf, Azzuro Ristorante Mediterraneo, Burger King, CaliBurger, Early Bird Breakfast Club, IHOP, Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen, Kimukatsu, L’Artizan, Pepper Lunch, TWG Tea, XO46 Bistro Filipino and California Pizza Kitchen.

Cafés and food outlets include Japanese and French fusion pastry maker Patisserie Bebe Rouge, ChaTime, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Greek Yogurt, Isla Café by XO 46, Mochi Sweets, BreadTalk, Starbucks, Mary Grace Ensaymada, Andale by Agave, Taters, Toby’s Еstatе from Australia and Twelve Cupcakes from Singapore. Sweet specialties are available at Villa del Conte and Morelli’s Gelato.

Shopping choices

A good mix of foreign and local retailers at Century City Mall include 158 Designers’ Boulevard, Denovo Diamonds, Pandora, Philip Stein, Sciccosso Jewellery, Marc Coblen, TW Steel, Victorinox, Swarovski, L’Optique, Parker, Otterbox, Oakley, Samsonite, Watcessory and cigarette booth Myst.

Popular fashion brands such as Bench/Edited, Call It Spring, Calvin Klein Jeans, Cotton On, Hush Puppies, Izod, and Uniqlo as well as newly-available fashion brands Desigual and F&F are open. Makeup and cosmetics are available at Beauty Bar, Crabtree & Evelyn, Fresh Fragrance Bar/H2O, Orogold Cosmetics, Shiseido, The Face Shop, and Zen Nutrients.

At the third level, there’s a Studio Fix by Alex Carbonell for haircut and salon services as well as a newly-opened Nail Tropics outlet for personal care services. For sports clothing and accessories, there’s Nike Stadium, Planet Sports, and ResToeRun.

Aside from True Value, Century City Mall also carries home, hardware, electronics, storage, and office supplies stores like Howard’s Storage World, Dimensione, Dyson, Sony, Office Warehouse, Il Mercante di Venezia and Blue Carreon Home.

Toys ‘R Us is on the second level. Other specialty stores are Fully Booked and Beyond the Box.

Further down at Basement 2 are service shops Mr. Quickie, LBC, Alter to Fit as well as Agua Verde water shop and Flowers by Rosabella flower shop.

Treat for shoppers

Century City’s “Shopaholic Holiday” promo gives 2,000 shoppers the chance to receive P2,000 worth of Century City Mall vouchers for every P10,000 worth of accumulated purchase on the weekends of November 29 and 30 and December 13 and 14. A raffle leaves a lot to chance, says Graham Coates, Century City Mall chief operating officer, but the promo gives shoppers what is effectively a 20-percent discount on their purchases.

Santa and his canine helper

Santa will roam the five-level mall every Sunday of December to give away gifts from Century City Mall’s tenants. Joining him is a special helper, a “reindeer dog,” which will be accepting donations in behalf of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society. During the press tour, Santa’s helper was Clifford, a dog who is also looking for a permanent home.

Photo ops

The festive spirit comes to view on the fourth level al fresco area where a giant Snow Globe awaits. Here, kids and adults alike can experience snow and have their photo taken inside its picturesque Winter Wonderland backdrop. Also on the same level is the mall’s #LoveChristmas tree, which makes for a beautiful backdrop for the daily fountain show at 12 noon, 6 pm, and 8 pm

Christmas carols

Christmas caroling from non-profit organizations Handog ng Pagmamahal and Sheavers Associations are scheduled at the basement every Sunday. Mass is also held at the Events Center on the fifth floor.

Kiss and tell

Kiss under mistletoes all around the mall and post it on Instagram with the hashtags #KissandTell and #LoveChristmas and tag Century City Mall (@centurymallph) to enter the contest. Five winners will be chosen every week for six weeks. Each will receive 10 free cinema tickets at the mall’s state of the art movie complex.

Watch a movie

You haven’t watched a movie properly until you’ve been to Century City Mall’s Premier Cinema. Featuring high-end brown leather seats and carpet fabrics, fully-digitized projection, top-of-the-range Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound, and a direct connection to the cinema lounge – not to mention a massive free bag of popcorn and large drink – the Premier Cinema is the movie fan’s version of heaven!
